Toys in Babeland

Toys in Babeland

When you think of sex shops, certain things come to mind: dark rows of 80s porn videos, terrible music and the feeling that you would die of embarrassment if anyone ever caught you browsing the bondage section. But all this humiliation was in the pursuit of better sex, so what did it matter?

A new sex shop in Brooklyn is hoping to change those stereotypes. Babeland not only has a cheery bright blue façade, but on the inside, well-dressed saleswomen happily greet customers in a store where hip music plays and the restrooms feature baby-changing tables. It’s located, appropriately enough, between a maternity store and a coffee shop.

“If you walk into a mainstream sex store, you’ll probably be greeted with explicit imagery and a sort of artificial sexuality, like a woman with blonde hair with her head thrown back, something that’s meant to titillate in the moment,” Babelands's owner Claire Cavanah told Fox News. “Here we’re really trying to sort of greet everyone where they are sexually.”

Sex toys and videos can be great tools for improving your sex life, and it’s a shame that many successful sex shops don’t provide comfortable environments for both men and women. So it’s good news that the owners of Babeland are experiencing success. In addition to their Brooklyn location, they also have stores near Seattle, St. Paul, Indianapolis and Charleston, WV. Would you shop at a place like Babeland? [FOX News]
