Finding Spirituality in an Unlikely Place

Finding Spirituality in an Unlikely Place

Bars are not usually compared to spiritual places, but Reverend Chris Heckaman is trying to change that. At the Pub Lounge in Sidney, OH, he holds a Sunday evening event called Country Rock Church, scheduling country bands, giving sermons and encouraging conversation among patrons.

Although it sounds a little out there, and irreverent to some, Heckaman, the head pastor at a Methodist Church in town, sees the programming as an innovative way to reach those people who are reluctant to attend regular services, but desire some kind of spirituality or faith in their lives. He is quick to assure that Country Rock Church is not a gimmick, but merely a fun and different approach, whether or not that means new Church members in the long run.

While there’s no question that Reverend Heckman is challenging spiritual norms and traditions, is he going too far, or is this exactly the kind of innovation we need to really look forward to becoming spiritually fulfilled? Would you be open to attending an alternative event like this as a way to live more spiritually? [Abcnews.com]

I think that is a SUPER idea. I am a night person and church has always been hard for me to make in the morning. Plus to be able to walk around and talk just keeps it from getting dull, as we all know, it can.
