Save Religion

Tony Blair, the former prime minister of Britain and major supporter of the U.S. invasion in Iraq, believes that religion is getting a bad rap from extremists and it needs to be rescued from people who are misappropriating its message.

"For religion to be a force for good, it must be rescued not simply from extremism, faith as a means of exclusion; but also from irrelevance, an interesting part of our history but not of our future," Blair said at Westminster Cathedral on Thursday. The Catholic convert gave the speech to highlight his new Tony Blair Faith Foundation with the goal of working with many faiths to come together for the sake of humanity.

But with recent studies in the United States claiming that people are gravitating away from their religion in favor of another one or no religion at all, does one’s faith matter in this case? Can people be spiritual without being tied to a religion to bring about change in the world? [The Guardian]
