Say "Yes" to Change!
When Becky Outcalt faced a career change, a few thoughts stood out at the time: “Expect the unexpected” and “recognize transferable skills.” The former is the cornerstone of change; if we knew what to expect every time a life change loomed, the transition wouldn’t be as feared or bumpy. If we can learn to expect uncertainty, the course of the change may not seem as surprising.
Flexibility, ability to adapt and a sense of humor were all important characteristics Outcalt relied on when she left a PR job to be a teacher. Another piece of advice is to “feel the fear.” Outcalt says, “I think when you finally come to the point when you realize that failure may not be the worst thing in the world, then you’re able to move forward with things a little bit easier.”
Are you realistically able to “feel the fear” and still move forward when you are embarking on a path of change? [The Indianapolis Star]
