Last year I decided to change my lifestyle. I saw the health problems that my mom has and took a look at her lifestyle. Mine was scarily similar to hers, so I decided to do something about it.

I started swimming and found that I really enjoyed it. Then I went on a detox retreat. That gave my change a jump start. I stopped eating meat in preparation for it and haven't gone back. Another thing that it helped me with was rediscovering my love for sports. I now play squash, walk, and do yoga in addition to swimming. Because of all these changes, I've lost over 50 lbs! I was doing things that I loved so it didn't seem like work. I have so much more energy and love life more. I don't know how I lived without these activities before.

My biggest change was a series of changes that have sent my life into turmoil. I got divorced after 16 years of marriage but hated to be because I still loved him. 6 months later the company I worked for closed down from one day to the next and I have not been able to get steady work at that pay in more than 4 months. I lost my home, I have too many bills to count and the changes keep coming. From a big wig with a stable life to living one day at the time....did i forget to say I have kids?
Hey, at least I have my health.
When people say to save enough for 3 months, they are not kidding...my goal now is once I am back on my feet (soon hopefully) I will save a years worth.

I went through a big change when I lost my grandmother to cancer. I was 23 years old and had moved away from home for the first time when the cancer first appeared. The feelings of being removed from the family and especially my grandmother were new and scary. The feelings experienced when I moved back to help care for her during the last few months of her life were unsettling and at times tested my core nature. Eventually my grandmother (who was the strength and glue of our small family) passed leaving me with more maturity, compassion and grace. A hard change, but one for the better. I wish I could tell her how instrumental she was in building my character.
