NYC-Bound Thanks to "Sex and the City"

Donal Lynch, a writer for Ireland’s Independent News in Dublin, is taking the plunge. No, she isn’t getting married to her Mr. Big, but after much thought, and being bombarded with the “Sex and the City” movie everywhere she goes, it’s New York City or bust. Her rationale? “If I’m going to have a pathetic love life anyway, then I want it to have a more glamorous backdrop.”

Maybe some of you have made similar, semi-spontaneous decisions regarding moving to a new city, or maybe you had reasons related to jobs or family that took you to a new place. Either way, like Lynch, you were (or are!) probably “slightly terrified.”

One of Lynch’s biggest difficulties is finding an apartment in New York, all the way from her home in Ireland. Thank goodness for the internet, but even apartment listings with a plethora of photos can potentially surprise you when you finally set foot inside. How do you go about apartment hunting from afar?
