Walk This Way
No matter where you move, taking into consideration the transportation options is key to understanding what living in a new place will be like. If you’re a biker, but moving to a hilly city with long winters, you may want to reconsider where you're moving or your mode of transport. Similarly, if you like the convenience of walking from place to place, as opposed to being dependent on a car, you should do some research.
The Huffington Post links to The Daily Green’s article on the “10 Most Walkable Cities” in the United States. The research done to compose the list was initiated by a couple of groups, including the Brookings Institution and Google, in order to help prospective residents find housing in areas suitable to walking to get around.
It’s probably no surprise that New York City, Portland and San Francisco made the list, but even Los Angeles had a spot, despite its traffic horror stories. Contrary to popular belief, once you stay put in a city like Los Angeles, it’s easy to get around on foot to places of necessity. How do you think your own town or city rates in terms of walkablity?
