"I was actually waiting for your book to come out at Barnes and Noble, and reserved it two weeks before it came out. I told my therapist about it and your web site and how you made a positive impact on me." -M

Question:How To Get Motivated?

I'm not really moving to a new city, just another apartment. But, I've hired movers to move me so that part is good. My boss was totally wonderful and gave me several days off this week to get a chunk of packing out of the way. The problem is, I can't get motivated....clearly as I'm here asking this question rather than packing. Can someone give me some ideas on motivating myself to just get up and do it so it's not last minute and I'm not stressed out?!?!?!? *sigh*

Answer:

get one of those kitchen timers and set it for half an hour. Tell yourself you're going to work straight through until you hear the ding. You'll get so caught up in the work that you'll probably keep going.

Answer:

I had the good fortune to be invited to a Tony Robbins seminar where I learned a number of things I've kept with me, but one that I'm still using, which is 'motion changes emotion'

When I'm feeling unmotivated and need to get going on a project I jump up from my chair and do some jumping around-- jumping up and down, jumping jacks, skipping rope, running in place, whatever it takes to change my energy and get my body in motion. After a few minutes of that, with my body warmer and more oxygen flowing to my brain, I'm ready to tackle just about anything.

Try it and let me know if it doesn't change your mood in some small way and get you just a tad more motivated.

When I had to move suddenly a few months ago, I could NOT get motivated! My solution was just to work in short bursts. So in the living room, I committed to doing as much work as I could while watching Footloose (one of my faves.) I packed up DVDs, cleared off shelves and tossed trash. A few of those sessions and I was done before I knew it!

If you have to, get a friend or two over to help you decide what goes and what goes in the trash/goodwill pile. Let someone else take charge, and it'll go by in a flash!
