Here Come the Guys

Here Come the Guys

As Californians experience the new frontier of same-sex marriages, many are elated, but some are faced with very important wedding planning questions: Who gets to walk down the aisle? Will there be bridesmaids and groomsmen? Will there be same-sex figurines atop the wedding cake?

In addition to all these questions, many couples who had waited decades for gay marriage to be legalized were anxious to celebrate as soon as possible, and therefore had little time to prepare.

The Los Angeles Times documented one couple’s journey during the final 24 hours leading up to their wedding. The “Groomzillas,” Paul Waters and Kevin Voecks, are captured doing everything from picking out shoes to waiting for sandwiches to arrive so they could feed hungry wedding guests. As they prepare for the ceremony one of its guests proclaims, “Here come the guys” instead of the traditional wedding verse.

If you’re planning a wedding any time soon—same-sex or otherwise—this story is a great primer for what you can expect. Every couple runs into last-minute hitches and meddling in-laws, but the important thing is that you both survive healthy, happy and ready to face the world. [Los Angeles Times]
