Question:What to do when people don't RSVP?

The RSVP date for my wedding has come and gone, and several of my guests - mainly family members - haven't responded yet. Now I have to call each person to find out if they're coming. I am really hurt that they never even bothered to respond; after all, they just have to check off yes or no and slip the card into an envelope (with pre-paid postage!). Should I say something when I call?

Answer:

This is a perfect job to give to mothers or fathers. For example, when my Aunt on my mother's side didn't reply it was her job to call and check what Aunt Janet's status was for the event. All we did was supply lists of people who didn't RSVP to them. Of course a couple you may have to call or email yourself.

Oh, if I had a dollar for every event I never RSVPd to...You can't take it personally; people just don't feel RSVPs are important anymore. If you'd sent an evite or facebook invite, I'm sure they would have responded.

The best thing to do, I think, is take the high road. Make the calls, let them know you'd be delighted if they could attend, and call it a day. You've got bigger things to think about, like the fact that you're getting married!!!

I had the same problem with my wedding (and I only invited 55 people...at least 15 hadn't gotten back to me), but I think unfortunately people are so busy these days that they simply forget to send the RSVP card. Also, for my family (my sister, my mother-in-law) they just assumed that we knew they were coming with their significant others, which might be the case in your situation. I still made the follow up calls and joked about not sending the card (thanks...you owe me 41 cents for the stamp you didn't use) but I couldn't hold it against them. You don't know what their circumstances are...so try not to take it personally.
