Extreme Makeover: Retirement Edition
Many an individual facing retirement looks at the days of wide-open living with equal parts unchecked enthusiasm and slight dread. Luckily, there are people out there ready and willing to tell you exactly what to do—for a price, of course.
If you don’t want to shell out hard-earned dollars for advice, you can get it the way we do…from reality programming. With the scores of baby boomers set to sail off into their personal sunsets, “What’s Next?” on Retirement Living TV—wow, there really is a channel for every interest!—aims to help new retirees find their footing. Baby boomers can apply to be on the show and get advice on how they might spend their free time. A current trailer on the site shows a woman who reignited a lost passion for ballroom dancing and found an outlet in volunteering as well.
For a few dollars more, you can hire a life coach to help you on your way. An organization such as the International Coach Federation can point you in the direction of a professional. What you’d get would probably depend on the type of coach you hire, but expect to take an inventory of your likes, skills and desires, along with some type of personality test like a Myers-Briggs.
