Retiring, Not Moving

There’s a vision that gets painted when you begin planning for retirement. Free of the constraints of work, people begin asking questions like “Where will you go?” For an increasing number of retired persons, the answer is “Nowhere.”

Travel is still an option, of course, but 90% of retirees and 80% of baby-boomers say they want to stay right where they are (much to the chagrin of retirement communities across the Sun Belt, we’re sure). The generation heading into retirement mostly raised their families in the suburbs, and the places they live are quite comfortable and have created what’s known as a “naturally occurring retirement community.” With everyone sticking around, there’s no need to go find a place near other retired people!
