"I am very taken by Ariane's concept and the philosophy of the website. In any case, I just loved the idea and am glad to chance upon it while reading Oprah." -Marion

Be a Movie Star

Be a Movie Star

Write, shoot and edit an entire film in one weekend? Not possible! Well, apparently, folks have been doing it for years as part of The 48 Hour Film Project. Ready to pursue your movie dreams? Assemble a team of people who know a little something about film, scavenge for actors who are willing to “work” for fun and you’re almost on you way to making a 7-minute film.

Teams assemble on a Friday night and receive a genre (horror, comedy, etc.) and one “required element”: a particular line, character or prop that must be featured in the film. Then, off they go for the next 48 hours, brainstorming, writing, shooting and eventually editing. What’s even more exhilarating is that the films are subsequently screened at local movie theatres, usually to sell-out crowds. It’s your chance to be in the spotlight!

The project is now taking place in more than 70 cities worldwide, so check the site’s listings to see if yours is on there. For inspiration, watch some of the films to get an idea of what a short looks like. What do you say, are you up for the challenge?
