What can I do to get a job and get out of debt ?
I am 51 years old, fmale who wants to work yet I am unable to find employment. I have put in applications at hotels, restaurants, temp services, positions for driving, any place that I have any experience for. I have returned to school to get my Bachelors degree in Human Services/Management which will make loans that I will have to pay off after I graduate, but what do I do in the meantime to avoid becoming homeless, I do not have any income and family can not help. I am at least 12,000.00 in debt with 5,000.00 of that being credit cards that are no longer wih the original creditor, they have been sold.
Hello Missefox,
I have found in my career that consulting has been an effective tool to fill in the gaps in my resume. There are plenty of temp agencies out there that take in all kinds of skill sets and this would give you some financial footing.
Hi Missefox,
Have you considered some type of Home business such as Tupperware or Mary Kay. I know, I know I said "no way" also but when I got to looking at it - it made sense. I decide on the hours I work, I meet a lot of interesting people that make wonderful contacts for that future job, I keep 50% of my sales and once I reach a certain amount in sales they give me a car, pay the tag and 80% of the insurance and it doesn't have to be the pink cadilac and to top it all off they offer training classes in time management, money management, organization and many more. I was so very shocked. I work a full time job and do this on the side and I love it. Good Luck!
Hi Missefox,
It looks like you've got a lot on your plate but if you take things one at a time you can absolutely tackle each one of these issues.
Regarding your debt, have you spoken to a credit counseling service? They might be able to help you get your debt down to a manageable monthly payment so you can get ahead of yourself and get it paid off in a decent amount of time. Also, not sure if you saw this, but this site has a whole page with tips for reducing debt: Link
That can help too!
Regarding the job situation, I think it's true that the market is tough, but continue to apply for jobs and you'll get one. Have you looked into working at your school? Have you asked your school's career center for guidance? They should be able to point you in the right direction. You might have to look to different cities for opportunities as well.
I wish you luck in your journey! And going back to school is great and will only help you!
