True Lies
When starting a new job, the last thing you want to do is start a habit of lying to cover your butt. You’ve probably been doing a good job of being honest so far, but what about your co-workers? Can you spot when one of them is lying to you?
Thank Forbes magazine for putting together this slide show of various physical cues that people turn to when they’re lying. For example, does your boss talk to you with crossed legs and arms? He or she is probably lying to you. Does your co-worker ask that a question be repeated often or answer your questions with “to be perfectly honest?” He’s probably preparing to give you a half-truth. Is your cube mate’s conversation full of long pauses? He or she is probably working out a whopper of a tale to give you.
If you're still having trouble deciphering lies from the truth, listen to Ariane's interview with Gary King, a life coach and speaker on telling the truth.
Once you can understand these cues, you’ll figure out how to get the truth and truly be successful at your new job. [Forbes]
