Seems I can't find work anywhere?
I have been without a job for three years and have been looking for that long too, and really getting tired of looking. I am a Medical Assistant with an Associates Degree and I also am working on my Bachelor's in Psychology. I am a single mother with two sons and am still looking for work, it is getting out of hand because we have been living off my sons social security from his fathers death and that is stopping this month due to him turning 18 I also have an eight year old, and I am facing homelessness. I have applied for every job I could think from fast food to line counseling and still no luck all this time. where do I go from here?
After being unemployed for 18 months, I'd had enough. I figured that since I couldn't find a job, I'd create one. I started a small business of one. You have a marketable skill, so I'd suggest contacting S.C.O.R.E, the Small Business Administration and your local economic development group to help you learn to market your skills and create your own income.
I am a Patient who has the "need for in home" care, Hospice and Home nurses too. It's always amazed me, the patience they have with me sometimes, and if your one of those who are caring , kind and considerate, well I do not know why there would not be work for somebody like you! I'm wondering if we're missing the point. If you are struggling getting work in even minimum wage situations we need to take a step back.
Humans are pretty shallow. How is your appearance? How are you presenting yourself to everyone? Are you dressing appropriately? How are your interpersonal skills? Are you doing the most you can, to make yourself as attractive as possible? People don't hire resumes...they hire people. So you have to consider this.
You might want to hire a life coach for an hour to evaluate how you are putting yourself out there. So they can give you good feedback and critism.
You've probably signed up for temp agencies. That can be a good way to get inside some companies and a temp job can turn permanent.
Be confident about how your age contributes to your experience. When tweaking your resume look for ways to quantify any of your achievements in terms of how it helped the company and also customize your cover letters.
I agree with your other post about it being so hard to get in front of someone. The job hunting process has become so impersonal and yet people are a company's greatest asset--it's a shame more companies don't make the effort to meet more candidates in person.

Yes I have tried the home health agencies as well as the other healthcare employment agencies. I do follow up calls too. I think sometimes My age has something to do with it since I am 40 and also have been out of work for a while but still go to school. I will try the linkedIn and see what it is about thanks for the advice.
I'm so sorry to hear about your trouble finding a job. You sound like you have experience and are qualified...how have you gone about looking for positions? If you're submitting resumes, try to get someone to help you edit or rework it, since that's usually the first impression you give an employer. Also, if you call to follow-up after you submit the resume, it will give them a great impression and show them you're really interested. I agree with Olivia, you're more likely to find a job through someone you know than through a posting somewhere, so be sure to tell everyone you're looking and ask if they know anyone who's hiring (if you haven't already).
