Standing in the Spotlight
In the first days and weeks of a new job, it’s normal to feel like you are in the spotlight, because you are. Don't think of that as a bad thing. Everyone is curious about the new guy or gal. Take this time to keep a low profile in the social circles. Walk through the halls calmly and confidently with a pleasant face. Be sure to smile at the people you meet along the way and look them in the eye. Even if you are shy, make a point to look everyone in the eye. Avoiding eye contact makes you look like you have something to hide.
