Ambition Matters

Ambition Matters

Think about why you are starting college. Do you want to make a difference in this world or do you want to just make money? Recently, Howard Gardner, a prominent professor at Harvard, beganleading “reflection” seminars at the top three colleges. He hopes that his seminars will encourage more Ivy-league students to consider self-fulfilling jobs rather than the quintessential wallet-friendly jobs that are offered to them.

We can’t be mad at Ivy-league students (or any other student for that matter) for wanting to grab the first financially stable job thrown their way. There is a great appeal to jobs that offer security for those who need to pay off their student loans in a timely manner. But is sacrificing your ambitions for money really all worth it? We’re here to tell you to keep in mind and sight what you want to achieve in your college career. Keep in mind that there is more to life than a hefty bank account!

So, what do you hope for as you begin your college career? [The New York Times]
