Coed Living at College
It had to happen eventually—after years of girls and guys wings in college dorms, the men and women on campuses across the country have the option of rooming together if they choose. Coed dorms might seem like no big deal to a very casual generation of students starting college, but we see a few ways that this arrangement could be a potential distraction.
Clearly, its parents who may have the hardest time with Susie and Jim sharing a space. While this is not a living situation aimed at couples—and very few are taking advantage of the coed living arrangements thus far—we can envision what will happen when people "stop being polite, and start getting real." It's no secret that this generation has a hookup mentality and sharing space with the opposite sex could lead to messy consequences.
Parents say sexual tension is more than likely to occur in coed dorms. Students disagree. Starting college is challenging enough without worrying about falling in and out of love (or bed) with a roommate or suitemate. Can men and women cohabitate respectfully as friends without boundaries being crossed? What do you think? [USAToday]
