Utah Allows Step-Parent Adoption

Part of the challenge of stepparenting is knowing that if something happened to your spouse, you might not have any rights when it comes to your stepchildren.

The state of Utah recently passed a bill that will give a non-biological parent the opportunity to convince a judge that they have an important role in the child’s life and that to sever the relationship could be harmful to the child. Currently, each state has slightly different adoption laws, though many do allow for stepparent adoption. If you’re thinking about adopting your stepchild you can visit Adoption.com for more information.
