Pimp Your DVD Collection
Your 52-inch plasma is your family room’s best accessory—you feel like you are actually at your team’s pre-season football games and all those earth shows on the Discovery Channel make you feel like you know how to swim with dolphins. But what about your DVDs?
When VHS went the way of vinyl, you went out and re-bought your fave movies on DVD and have been adding to your collection ever since. The problem: they aren’t reaping the benefits of your HDTV. A Blu-ray player can run you a few Benjamins (plus the cost of Blu-Ray discs) and you aren’t willing to purchase your entire collection (again) for a little enhancement.
Toshiba has a solution to your HD woes (and their woes as well. Earlier this year, Sony Blu-Ray discs beat out Toshiba’s HD DVDs). They are releasing a new DVD player, XD-E500, which will improve and sharpen the look of your DVDs for a suggest retail price of $149.99.
Are you happy with the way your DVD collection looks on your HDTV? Are you considering purchasing a Blu-ray or some other product to enhance your viewing experience? [Associated Press]
149.99 is a bargin. I wonder if it up converts to 1080i or 1080p. Anyone know?
My husband has been hounding me to get a Blu-ray player, but I keep resisting. I hate the idea that I have to re-buy all our dvds (we have a lot) just for a couple of pixels. I like this option though—if it can boost the signal from the dvds we already have, then great! Toshiba just saved me a whole lot.
