Get Your Chat On

Avid Facebook Wall poster, listen up! Instead of conversing back and forth for the world to read your weekend party plans, message privately with Facebook’s anticipated new chat.

While it is only available on a few networks so far, including NYU and Harvard, it will be integrated into the system as the week goes on. Unlike other applications, the chat is download-free and located at the bottom of the window. Users can decide to be “offline” and not available for messaging while still using the site. Facebook friends will be able interact in real-time by writing back and forth to each other. But wait, isn’t that what AIM is for?

Facebook instant messaging exists solely within your web browser. For computers without other options and for quick use, this application could prove useful. And just in case you were wondering what your friend is posting on Facebook at this very moment, as she chats with you, Mini Feed activity will be streaming through your chat. An option in the privacy features will allow you to disable your actions from popping up in chat.

But otherwise, this sounds very similiar to any other instant messenger. C’mon Facebook, wow us! [WebProNews]
