Your Right to Work
Don’t you miss your child?
I didn’t know John/Jane had a mother!
Does your child scream and cry when you leave for work?
Have other mothers—or fathers, teachers, day care operators—said this to you, passively judging your choice to go back to work after having a baby?
Unfortunately, these insensitive comments may be all too common for working moms. For example, in one blog entry from Momlogic.com, blogger Daphne says that because her husband stays home to take care of her son James, she hasn’t been able to meet many of the other parents at school. So when she does show up for meetings or events, she’s usually greeted to statements like, “Wow, where have you been? We NEVER see you at school,” or “My son Damian said he didn’t even know James had a mommy.”
These statements can be downright rude and hurtful, and passively judgmental of a mother’s decision to return to work.
We want to hear what you think. Do you get these comments a lot as a working mother? How do you response to insensitive comments about your decision to go back to work after having a baby? [momlogic.com]
