"I was actually waiting for your book to come out at Barnes and Noble, and reserved it two weeks before it came out. I told my therapist about it and your web site and how you made a positive impact on me." -M

A Little Girl's Triumph

A Little Girl's Triumph

Six-year-old Jessie Hall already has faced obstacles many of us will never know in our lifetimes. Hall has a rare health diagnosis: Rasmussen’s Encephalitis, which is a neurological disease that could have been deadly had surgery not been performed.

In June, pediatric neurosurgeon Ben Carson, M.D., removed the right half of Hall’s brain in a procedure called a hemispherectomy. Over the next five weeks, hospital staff worked with Hall to help her left brain learn all the functions her right half previously controlled, which includes relearning how to walk and talk. While her recovery is still ongoing, Hall was able to walk out of the hospital on her own over the weekend and join her family at home. Make sure to check out some of the amazing videos of Hall in physical therapy and talks with her parents about her progress on Jessie's blog.

If a little girl can push the barriers of science and show amazing willpower and strength in the face of a life-threatening health diagnosis, is it possible that this strength lies within all of us? If you’ve recently received a daunting health diagnosis, what treatments are you working with to help you conquer or better manage your condition? [WJZ-TV]
