Adolescent Bipolar Disorder on the Increase
All children and adolescents can be prone to mood swings, but when those swings become extreme, it might be worth seeing your doctor. Bipolar disorder is characterized by swings between depression and “mania” which is characterized by hyperactivity, increased risk tasking, rapid speech, decreased need for sleep, etc. Diagnosis among youngsters has increased dramatically. If you suspect your child might be experiencing these extreme swings, discuss your concerns with your pediatrician and ask for a referral to a child psychiatrist. Bipolar can be treated effectively, and it’s possible for your child to live a normal life.
