Coping with Male Breast Cancer

Breast cancer is not just a women’s disease, men can be diagnosed with breast cancer too. Due to the lack of prevalence of male diagnoses, there may be the added stigma of being diagnosed with a “female” cancer. However, the emotional effects of a cancer diagnosis are universal. First, it’s important to reach out to trusted friends and family for support. Next, research your illness and find treatment providers who you are comfortable with. Lastly, it’s important to take care of yourself during this difficult time. Be sure to eat well, get enough rest and find appropriate ways to cope with stress. Breast cancer can affect anyone. There is no shame in being a male with breast cancer. Don’t allow this to prevent you from seeking treatment. Learn more about male breast cancer at MayoClinic.com
