Devastating Diagnosis Secrets

Devastating Diagnosis Secrets

Handling a spouse's cancer health diagnosis is difficult enough, but not knowing the facts is simply unfair. A new study from Sweden shows that two out of five widowers were never told that their wives’ cancer was incurable until the women were near death. Sometimes, they were not informed at all.

The study’s results prompted researchers to recommend that cancer patients and their families speak directly with their doctor about the amount of information they receive about their health diagnosis and prognosis. In turn, researchers recommend that doctors should ask their patients and the patients’ families how much they want to know.

If you were faced with such a tragic situation, would you want to know the odds of recovery and death? How might a lack of information work in your favor? Is it right to withhold vital information from someone if you believe it’s in their best interest? [HealthDay]
