Heart Disease at 32

Though Chris Verdin had a family history of heart disease, that didn’t stop him from living an unhealthy lifestyle and ballooning up to 366 pounds. One day, after he had mowed the lawn and was sitting down to watch a football game, he had breathing difficulties. He was having a heart attack.

Chris was only 32 years old.

He was rushed to the hospital and had an emergency angioplasty, then a week later he had five stents put in to open the blockages around his heart. Instead of reveling in the misery of his diagnosis, Chris took action.

“The best thing that ever happened to me was I had a heart attack,” he says. Since that episode he changed his diet and became a group cycling instructor at the YMCA. He’s now dropped 110 lbs. “You’ve got to change,” Chris says. “You need to take your life into your own hands.”

If you’ve received a health diagnosis that you’re unhappy with, follow Chris’s lead and change your lifestyle to improve your health. Sometimes, just changing your diet and increasing your exercise level can do wonders in combating any disease or condition. [CNN.com]
