Treating Vulvodynia

Vulvodynia is a term used to refer to vaginal pain in women. This pain can feel as mild as a sting and as strongly as acid being poured on your most intimate parts. Women affected by Vulvodynia may be unable to have sexual intercourse, insert a tampon or in some severe cases, even sit in a unpadded chair.

In the past, doctors thought it was all in the woman’s head, and would often refer the patient to a psychiatrist, instead of treating their painful symptoms. However, new information has become available and doctors are finally taking women’s concerns seriously. In fact, its estimated that approximately 13 million women will cope with Vulvodynia at some point in their lives.

If you’re one of these women, don’t back down. There really is something going on, and you have the right to find out what it is. Continue seeing doctors until someone takes your symptoms seriously! Read on for more about vulvodynia from The New York Times.
