I am hypothyroid and always tired. Anyone have any suggestions for getting an energy boost?
I am always feeling sleepy, no matter what medicine level I'm on. Anyone have any tips or suggestions? I'm tired needing to nap at my desk!
I was diagnosed with something called Hashimoto's thyroiditis (great name, btw) when I was in my 20s. My doctor was really surprised because it normally affects older women... but I've always been like someone's grandmother anyway, so I guess it made sense.
One thing that I've been doing for the past year that has really helped is to have a protein drink for breakfast. It's a low cal, low fat concoction ... some powder that I bought at Trader Joe's specifically for women, called Aria. I mix it up with water or fat free milk and I find it gives me a boost of energy in the morning. Certainly better for me than the french cruellers that dance around in my head.
I've also found that drinking lots of water helps give me more energy ... particularly when I am disciplined about it and make myself drink so much every hour ...
If all else fails, you can jump on a trampoline like we do in the office. That should wake (and shake) you up!
I'm sure your doc has mentioned exercise...even 15-20 minutes per day of walking, biking or swimming can help.
It's probably hard to think of exercise when you're so tired, though! Perhaps a B-vitamin supplement? I'm sure there are other herbal remedies you could ask your doc about. Many South Americans swear by Mate, an energizing herbal tea.
