Taking a cue from Angelina, Madonna went into Africa two years ago and walked out with a child. International adoption rules are particularly stringent, however, and though David has been living with Madonna and her husband Guy Ritchie, the adoption has yet to be formalized.

The government in Malawi is urging its high court to approve the adoption as it would be in the best interest of the child. Madonna and Malawi were criticized when she was first allowed to bring David home, as the country has strict laws against non-citizens adopting children in that country.
