The Best Exercise Investment
The best investment you can make for a healthy and appropriate exercise program is a few sessions with a certified personal trainer. That's according to the national director of group fitness programming for Equinox Fitness Clubs, Carol Espel. "People often fail because they don’t have a plan," explains Espel. "A trainer can give you a safe, manageable, personalized routine that fits into your lifestyle, goals and preferences."
Many people associate trainers with the rich and famous, but this isn't about hiring someone to work with you poolside, like in the movies. It's about getting expert, personalized advice on the best exercise plan for you, just as you might enlist the help of a financial planner to establish a get-out-of-debt plan. A few visits, and you're on your way.
"You can then continue to work out on your own with periodic checkups to ensure proper technique and form, as well as to adjust the amount of weight and number of reps and sets you do," Espel suggests. A trainer can also "provide fresh ideas to update your existing routine."
