Why certain myths persist, like the existence of Bigfoot or the deadly combination of Pop Rocks and Coca Cola, will never be known. Unfortunately, though there is a lot of information about getting in shape out there, certain exercise myths will never die.
Shape magazine and CBS News put together a list of some of the more common ones that people continue to spread. For example, some people believe that doing sit-ups or crunches will “spot reduce” one’s midsection. Not true. If you want to get rid of fat in your midsection, the only thing to do is cardio work—running, walking, biking, etc. Another myth is that muscle turns to fat if you don’t exercise. That’s a big fat lie, because muscle can’t ever turn into fat, but you may lose muscle and gain fat. Read on for more exercise myth busting. [CBS News]
