Ultimately, getting in shape only takes a pair of sneakers and some motivation to get out the door and start moving! But there are some new fitness trends that are becoming pretty popular, and some top fitness experts are weighing-in on their effectiveness. Here's the low-down on three new fads. 
 
*Skorcher: This machine zeroes in on your rear-end in a rather specific manner, focusing on toning the buttocks and thighs by pushing out of a basic squat position. Personal trainer Jay Blahink says it may allow you to do specific exercises, but the machine is not always effective. You might want to save the money and stick to weighted lunges and squats.
 
*Yoga fusion: This update on a classic involves a blend of yoga, aerobic dance, cycling and boxing. The workout pioneers claim it's an ideal way to squeeze in cardio and sculpting, but Los Angeles-based trainer Kathy Kaehler say she thinks these classes give people a “false sense of what yoga is for and how it is practiced.” The good news? These workouts won’t hurt you either.
 
*RealRyder: It might sound like a device fit for a horse rider, but the RealRyder is actually an indoor bike that allows you to move from side to side. As an outdoor bike rider, Lombardi says she loves the $2,395 bike. But Blahinik says trying to gain balance on the RealRyder may result in a reduced calorie burn.

I agree that too many choices can be overwhelming when it comes to workouts. That's why I'm glad my gym keeps pretty much the same classes, but then adds some new ones each season to keep things fresh and interesting.

I love all of the options that are available because I love to try new workout trends! But I do think that it can get a bit overwhelming sometimes. There are just sooo many options, and so many of them are ineffective. Sometimes you have to stick to the basics and what works. But it is also fun to mix it up sometimes.

I recently tried a BOSU Pilates class -- Oh, my gosh! I could not breathe right for days. It targeted my abs like no other! I went and bought a BOSU ball the next day.
