Being a Great Role Model for Your Daughter

You are your daughter’s biggest role model. Even if she is in that stage of trying to separate from you and form her own identity, you are still her biggest influence. How can you go about teaching her to have healthy attitudes about eating and her body? First, it’s important to demonstrate your own healthy attitudes. Try not to make disparaging remarks about yourself in front of your daughter. No more, “I need to lose 10 lbs.!” or “I’m so fat”, “No ice cream for mommy” type statements. This sends a message to your daughter that certain foods are bad and that it’s okay to be critical of yourself. Next, demonstrate healthy eating habits. Choose whole grains, lean meats and fresh fruits and vegetables. Serve milk at every meal to encourage calcium intake. Keep reading at AOL Coaches for more advice on how to be a healthy role model for your daughter.
