Question:I have a marriage/relationship question and problem. My new (less than 1 yr) husband does not like my dog. I am a definite dog person. Dogs rule.

He attempted to get along with or put up with my dog before we were married but things are different now. When he is home the dog goes outside except overnight.
She is a beautiful Old English Sheepdog that will be 9 yrs old to
morrow.

Please help me!

Answer:

Hi, Cathy

I'm sorry to hear your hubby and dog are not as simpatico as you would like. Is it dogs in general he doesn't care for? Have they spent any time alone to see if they can bond? Maybe he can make an effort to play with her (throw a ball or frisbee), jog together (?) or have him be the one who gives her treats or special food.

I'm an animal person so it's hard for me to understand when people don't like animals, but not everyone is a dog/cat person.

It's not fair to the dog to have to stay outside, especially now that she is getting older. Can you make a place for her in the house where she won't be in his way?

I still think they need to find some way to have a relationship, so he can understand why you cherish her and develop his own bond.
