Question:how do you know when its time to leave and how to do it?

my boyfriend and i have been with eachother for 5 years and as of late our relationship has gone worse then ever. We fight 6 days out of the week and the fights have gotten very bad. The worse was he grabbed me by the throat and chocked me. He often treatens to hit me but thats the first time he had. He is also very verbaly abusive and always has been. Abuse runs in his family his father beat his mother. I love him but Im not in love with him anymore i just dont know if i should wait it out or leave. Or how to go about leaving?

Answer:

Attend a codependency or alanon meeting and share what you are going through. You will get the support you need to set boundaries. Nothing will change unless you change. The abuse gets worse, never better. If you threaten to call the police, be prepared to follow through. The police issue a restraining order immediately to protect you. Trust me, I have been there. If you don't change, he won't either. One call to the police stopped the abuse in my relationship.
