An Unhealthy Neighborhood

Remember when your mom used to say you were too lazy and you should go outside to ride your bike? What your mom didn’t know is that your neighborhood may be working against you.

A new study in the most recent issue of Urban Studies focused on data in the area surrounding Chicago, showing that people living in poorer neighborhoods with lower levels of education were less likely to get out and exercise. The problem lies in being able to feel comfortable enough in your area to go outside, and the reports stated that factor was more important to women than men.

Unfortunately, the report doesn’t provide solutions for this issue, but if you do live in a neighborhood that you don’t feel comfortable walking around or biking in, think about joining a gym or doing some exercise at home. Think of some other ways that you can define what living healthier means for you. Whatever you do, get up and move your body! [Yahoo News]
