Bone Up on Your Health
How often do you think about your bones? It’s kind of hard to remember they’re there, since they’re hidden all the time and you don’t notice them until they break. But your bone health usually peaks around the age of 35, so taking good care of them should be part of your living healthier routine.
Health magazine has a great guide for what you can do in your 30’s, 40’s and 50’s to improve your bone health. For example, in your 30’s, you should probably incorporate more calcium into your diet, go easy on the alcoholic drinks because it can damage bone growth and learn relaxation techniques, like meditation, to reduce the stress on your body. In your 40’s, you should work out more, watch your weight and get tested for early bone density loss. In your 50’s, you should continue these healthy habits you’ve developed, be even more mindful of your diet and work on your balance to avoid falls.
And these tips may sound geared towards women, but men need to take care of their internal structure as well. According to the National Osteoporosis Foundation, 20% of people who are affected by osteoporosis are men. [CNN]
