My Butt Saved My Life

Yet another story in the long list of confusing medical research came out today.

According to Harvard Medical School, of all places, researchers found that fat that accumulates around one’s hips and butt may protect against diabetes. How did they figure this out? Researchers injected fat into the bums and abdomens of mice and noticed that it helped them lose weight. They believe that fat in this area helped regulate blood sugar.

First off, it’s great that researchers have figured this out and maybe ladies like Kim Kardashian can thank their larger posteriors to warding off a serious health diagnosis. But (pun intended), how useful is this? Last we checked there was no product, treatment or procedure short of surgery that could direct one’s fat into a specific area in the body…though many women across the world have wished it to be true. The day that happens, well, let’s just say we will be the FIRST to post that story!

Until then, you might not want to rely on this study to excuse your lack of dieting and exercising. The vast majority of research on healthy living shows that having extra fat anywhere on your body can lead to metabolic syndrome, which in turn could lead to diabetes, heart disease and even Alzheimer’s.

So embrace that booty, but don’t neglect the gym. [Reuters]
