Question:How do I get my husband to go for a checkup?

My husband hasn't been to see a doctor in years. I've made several appointments for him for a checkup, but he always cancels because he's "too busy with work" or "he feels fine" so why go to the doctor? I worry about him, but I am also tired of fighting him on this. Any advice on how to get him to take his health seriously?

Answer:

If he doesn't get a checkup just go to a health fair and at least get a blood pressure check and a sugar and cholesterol test. Very simple measures. If anything is out of line have him make an appointment. If not and he is young, may not be a need for a physical for now.

Have you tried to give him an incentive? I love my husband, but unless he gets some sort of reward for going to the doctor he won't go. Maybe offer a nice night out or promise to splurge to get him something he really wants. That might give him more of a reason to go!

Answer:

Make him an appointment every year - first thing in the AM on Christmas Eve. He'll almost always have the day off, and since everyone is usually out shopping that day, the doc's office won't be crowded. He'll be in/out in a jiffy...

Is there someone who is a peer who could influence him. A friend, an uncle, a cousin? Sometimes men will listen to other men more readily about this kind of stuff.
