Question:Why must we say, "My candidate lost", or "My candidate won", when we 'know that ONE PERSON can never be perfect or cause our country to travel in 'the right' direction? A 'SUM TOTAL' of ALL, working together for "CHANGE" is required. I want AMERICA to w

A 'sum total of ALL', working together for 'CHANGE' is required in order for a country such as ours to become 'steered' in a better direction. I want our Country, the good old United States of America, to achieve success, to become a more desirable nation in which to live, and not be a citizenry of impoverished, insecure, misguided, and 'money in MY pocket' oriented nation. A Democrat, Republican, Independent, and/or any other party cannot be a "sole leader" of our country. I don't believe any one person can ever achieve the goals our country so desparately needs because no 'one individual' is able or qualified to create and perform all the miracles of change necessary to handle such a task. History has proven that.
I also believe that it's long past the time that we should choose to "BE ONE NATION, UNDER GOD" for the betterment of all people. Anyone can think or say whatever he/she feels or believes about my comments. That's a priviledge we all have been granted. A disagreement will not CHANGE what I believe and know in my heart, my brain, and in my 'spirit'. (Something to 'Think About').

Answer:

Chickapea, I think one of the best things to come out of the election cycle is the dialogue between those who have differences in beliefs. Last night I sat in a living room with my housemates and our friends. Though most had voted for Obama, there were McCain supporters present. We had a very lively and healthy discussion and while we disagreed on much, one thing we did agree on is that one person cannot be responsible for all the changes we want to see in the world. It takes dedication, teamwork and sacrifice from many. And change begins with us, at the local and individual level, in my opinion.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts and for believing in freedom.

I share some of those same feelings. I didn't live through the second World War, like my parents did, but I long for a time when our country pulled together as one nation, when we were respected by other countries of the world and looked up to.

It might be unrealistic to say that such a time could come to being again. We're in a war now, but it's only the soldiers and their families who are sacrificing ... it seems so disconnected from our everyday lives.

The world has grown and changed so much in the past 60 years (!) but I do think we need to come together as a nation made up of all different people who believe in the promise of democracy and freedom, but not in the sense that one does whatever one wants ... I think we have to realize that change starts with each of us taking responsibility to do the right thing and that only together can be build this nation back up again.
