Get READY to Lose Weight

Get READY to Lose Weight

A verbal agreement to lose weight holds about as much weight as the cable company’s answering system saying, “We’ll be with you in a moment.” Instead, health experts say, successful weight loss requires readiness and clearly set goals, two factors that can be severely affected by proper timing.

Lets face it: Losing extra poundage requires a good overhaul of your life. Think big changes here, in your diet, exercise routine, sleep habits, social life—you get it. Weight loss requires a commitment.

Looking to lose excess weight? Then, ask yourself these questions to determine your level of motivation and dedication to a new lifestyle. Your answers will help you to better define personal goals.

*What am I willing to change? Where do I start? It is important to identify your barriers, and understand that you cannot go from your current weight to super skinny in a day. Start small with factors you can change, like packing your lunch, and you will begin to see a change.

*Why are you doing this? Make sure your motivation to get healthy is more than wanting to look good for a wedding or class reunion. A better commitment is, “I want to fell better,” instead of, “I want to make my cousin jealous.”

*What was your “aha” moment? Most people who are successful at losing weight have had a defining moment in their life where they felt a pull to drop pounds. But even if you’re not 100% prepared, making small changes are OK. Get up off the couch and go for a walk, or trade late night TV for a solid night’s sleep. Once you see the difference, experts say, you will be more ready to commit to a serious plan.
