Eating healthy during the holidays?
I feel like I am constantly surrounded by candy, cakes, and cookies during the holidays. And I admit I have zero willpower! Does anyone have any tips and tricks for avoiding the urge to overindulge?
Give it away, for sure. Family, friends. If you have lots of sweets you don't want in the house, bring them to work :)
Drink water before you start eating or drinking.
Push away from the table between courses. Get up, walk around.
Get everyone outside before (or after) dessert for a game or a walk around the neighborhood or just around the block.
Keep it out of your house as much as possible - give it away or try putting treats in the back of the freezer/fridge - or put it all in a back corner of the garage so you can keep it out of sight. Write down everything you eat (or take digital pics before eating) so you can be good most of the day and plan to have a certain amt of treats at parties or after dinner. At get togethers, choose a tiny plate and have a small portion of one treat at a time - really savor it and since you have to go back and help yourself to each little portion, you won't have that full plate of "have-to-try" treats that would be "rude" to dump in the garbage. Also, look up light desserts if you bake and always drink water before you eat dessert. If you have a lot of parties or dinners, then eat a full dinner before cocktail/dessert events, and a filling snack before dinners so you're not adding hunger to your dessert cravings. :)
