I am a Care Giver for my mother. How can I get MORE energy?
I am a care giver for my 90 year old mother. I have Type 1 diabetes/Juvenile. I find myself physically and mentally worn out, following my visits to help mom out (banking, food shopping, drug store Rx re-fills, etc.), cleaning, laundry, et al.

Hi DiabeticDavid954!
You sound like you're doing a lot of hard work to help your mother out. Of course you would be tired! Are you getting enough sleep and rest before your visit? That might help you from feeling drained once you run all those errands.
Plus, I agree with VBianchini—are you getting the proper nutrition? You might want to talk to your doc about getting more vitamins and nutrients in your diet.
And, this sounds crazy, but are you getting any exercise? It might seem like the last thing you want to do after a long day, but exercising can really be an energy and metabolism booster when you're feeling totally wiped out.
Remember that you're doing such a good thing for your mom!
The things I usually do to power up for a day when I need all my energy are to have a healthy breakfast and drink lots of water. I wear comfortable shoes and try to keep myself as organized as possible, because I find even being disorganized during a day of running errands can be draining.
When I come home I put everything away as quickly as I can so it doesn't lay around and overwhelm me. If my feet are even the least weary I will soak them in mixture of gentle soap suds and lavender oil or other soothing mixture.
As someone with diabetes you need to be sure you're getting the proper nutrition at the right times throughout the day. Don't put off eating, even when you are busy and don't forget to keep hydrated. Drinking water will give you more energy.
After a busy day take time to be good to you or do something for yourself. If you can afford it go have a massage or sit quietly at home with some soft music and take some long, deep breaths. Think about one of your favorite places in nature, like a beach or a path in the woods or take some time to let your mind quiet down while you watch birds at a feeder. And, get a good nights rest.
