Hayes' Stroke from Hypertension

Hayes' Stroke from Hypertension

When singer Isaac Hayes passed away last week, the world lost an icon. Although he was 65, the self-ascribed “health fanatic” seemed much too young.

Medical researchers determined that the cause of death was a stroke that was related to high blood pressure. Before his death, Hayes was being treated for high blood pressure and had suffered a stroke last year.

Of course, Hayes will be dearly missed. Yet in his passing he reminds us all of the importance of staying vigilant about our health. If you have high blood pressure, help yourself and your doctor by monitoring your blood pressure at home. Follow all of your doctor’s instructions to lower your blood pressure. In addition, know the signs and symptoms of a stroke. Stroke symptoms can be subtle, but the more you know, the better your odds are of survival and recovery.

In memory of Isaac Hayes, what are some of your favorite works, songs, speeches or performances by him? [MTV News]
