NanoTech for your iPod Nano
Breaking news in the field of nanotechnology—where the next big thing is small. Make that super tiny. Nanotechnologists deal with matter on atomic and molecular scales.
It’s already pretty amazing that you can carry around a 80GB iPod classic with 20,000 songs in the palm of your hand. But what about five times that…or more? These nanotechnologists have discovered a “molecular-size switch” that could allow an increase of memory capacity, without an increase in physical size.
What does that mean for you? Well, the new technology would allow 500,000 gigabytes to fit on one square inch of space. Today, 3.3 gigabytes fills that space. Consider this: 1GB on the shuffle holds about 240 songs. Multiply by 500,000 and you’re talking about 120 million songs on a device about the size of the iPod nano.
Do you even know that many songs? More important, iTunes better get started on an upgrade—they only have six million songs! Guess we might have to download games and movies, too. [The Daily Telegraph]
