Quitting Smoking 2.0

Quitting Smoking 2.0

We do our best here at First30Days to keep you inspired and motivated on your quest to quit smoking. We provide you with the latest news, and you can connect with others who share your goal of a healthier life. However, we realize we’re not alone.

Though there isn’t any scientific evidence yet on the impact that social networking sites have on people’s efforts to quit smoking, many researchers believe such web sites improve people’s chances for successfully quitting. That’s because online communities tend to mimic real life, and in the real world, smoking has become rather unpopular (if you hadn’t noticed).

Unfortunately, an analysis of search terms such as “quit smoking” and “smoking cessation” revealed that three out of four web sites offered little to no useful quitting smoking resources. That means the quality web sites out there (such as us) are more difficult to find. (By the way, you can find our quitting smoking resources here.)

If the web doesn’t grab you and gadgets are your fix, try some of the latest technological devices aimed at helping people to quit smoking, such as the QuitKey. The QuitKey is a tiny digital program that fits on your keychain. Every time you have a cigarette, you press the button so it can track your smoking habits. Once it’s got your habits mapped out, it prompts you when to smoke and then gradually reduces the number of smokes you have in a day until you’re smoke-free.

Besides us of course, what other online services or articles have helped you in your journey to becoming a non-smoker? [The Star-Ledger]
