Teen Kicks (Cigarette) Butt

Teen Kicks (Cigarette) Butt

Chad Bullock may be just 19 years old, but he’s made major strides as an anti-tobacco activist. He has trained over 15,000 teens across the nation on how to say no to smoking in the five years he spent running anti-smoking campaigns. He also helped make Durham Bulls Athletic Park in North Carolina smoke-free, worked with the National Campaign for Tobacco Free Kids and successfully petitioned the Attorney General to sue cigarette companies who market cigarettes to youngsters.

Bullock was the big winner among nine other finalists at Nickelodeon’s 2008 Teen Choice Awards for his amazing efforts to improve the world. On August 4, he received the Do Something Award from Scarlett Johansson in addition to a $100,000 grant from Do Something to continue his battle against cigarettes and Big Tobacco. Do Something.org is a nonprofit organization that supports kids’ and teens’ power to make positive changes in the world.

We all can learn a lot from people like Bullock. Can you imagine what our world would be like if more of us followed in his footsteps?

Have you taken any steps—donated to charity, volunteered, started a campaign—to help others quit smoking, or with anything else? Tell us your charitable tales! [Do Something]
