The Funny Side of Quitting

The Funny Side of Quitting

Anyone who is familiar with humorist David Sedaris’s works will be pleased with his latest release, When You Are Engulfed in Flames. Like most of Sedaris’s other works, such as Naked and Me Talk Pretty One Day, the new book is a collection of essays dealing with obscure events in his life.

One of the stories in the latest installment circles around Sedaris’s literal journey to quit smoking. Sedaris travels to Tokyo, a location known for cheap, abundant supplies of cigarettes. Ironically, it is in Tokyo where Sedaris finally makes his break with smoking, having been a dedicated addict for nearly 30 years. For anyone needing a good laugh while dealing with all the emotions involved with quitting smoking, When You Are Engulfed in Flames is sure to deliver.

What are some of the funnier moments you’ve experienced in your path to be smoke-free? [The Vancouver Sun]
